I was very pleased to be asked to be part of the Early Years Special Interest Group for the Durham Commission on Creativity and Education. It was held at Theatre Hullaballo in Darlington on the 9th of May. I went with Joy Haynes who I work with at Magic Acorns was very pleased to see Gina Westbrook of Take Art, Ruth Churchill-Dower of Earlyarts (and MMU) and Jo Belloli formerly of the Polka Theatre, Rhona Matherson of Starcatchers and Katherine Morely associate artist at the Egg theatre on this important group.
Most excitingly I got to experience Roma Patel's Enchanted Forest as it is currently installed at the Hullabaloo. Roma has been a collaborator with our Magic Acorns Near and Far project.
Professor Simon James who heads the commission made a special trip to Great Yarmouth to visit Magic Acorn's Music room at the Priory Children's Centre. He wanted to see work with babies - so I invited him down and he came. He is in the picture talking to Jo, a speech and language specialist about SALTmusic.
We are delighted and extremely proud that SALTmusic featured as a case study in the Durham Commission report. Read the full report here. SALTmusic is on page 48
